Alumni

The mission of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Alumni is simple:  promote college rodeo, preserve the history of college rodeo, and honor the accomplishments of collegiate contestants and alumni.  Renewing of friendships and having a lot of fun is part of the plan, too!

Twenty-Fourth Annual NIRA Alumni Reunion

The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Alumni (NIRAA) will celebrate its 24th Anniversary by honoring all the NIRA National Champions, Championship Teams, top finishers, Faculty and Student Presidents for the years ending in “5”, 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, and 2005 at our Annual Reunion Friday & Saturday, June 19-20 at the 2015 College  National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming.

All you former college cowboys and cowgirls need to be making plans to come to the College National Finals Rodeo in June!  It is a great rodeo and a great way to reconnect with a sport that made a difference in your life.  This year, 2015, we are especially inviting “The Fives”, those who were a part of college rodeo in any year that ended in Five.  But everyone who took part in college rodeo at any time is invited to come to the annual reunion.  You will meet folks from six decades of college rodeo, all with stories to tell and experiences to share!

COLLEGE RODEO’S ALUMNUS OF YEAR

Buz Cowdrey of Bozeman, Montana, is the 2014 recipient of the Alumnus of the Year.  Buz went to Western Montana College in Dillon.  Buz was one of the founding members of the NIRA Alumni and has served on the Board of Directors ever since.  He competed in saddle bronc and bull riding winning the regional bull riding championship twice.  Buz and his wife Judy have a real estate business, with rental properties in Montana and Arizona.  He is currently serving as treasurer of the Alumni, and credits his business success to “some of those hard knocks I received in rodeo.”  Buz joins an illustrious group of Alumnae of the Year:  Bob Clore, Sonny  Sikes, Charlie Rankin, Sylvia Mahoney, Evelyn Bruce Kingsbery, Walt Garrison, John Smith, and Sharon Adams.
